Experience letter for a sales executive

Sales hiring is about numbers, so a good experience letter names the products sold, the territory and what the person achieved against target. Dealerships, FMCG distributors, real-estate firms and insurance agencies issue these when staff move on; many forget the numbers.

To whom it may concern,

This is to certify that Mr. Akhil Suresh was employed with Luxon Motors (authorised Tata Motors dealership), Kochi, as Sales Consultant from 3 June 2022 to 31 October 2026.

He was responsible for new-car sales at our Kalamassery showroom, handling walk-in and digital enquiries, test drives, finance coordination and deliveries. He consistently met his monthly target of 12 cars and was awarded "Best Sales Consultant" for the Onam season in 2024 and 2025.

His conduct was good and he maintained strong relationships with customers. He resigned to pursue a better opportunity and has been relieved of his duties after serving notice. All dues are settled.

We wish him success in his career.

Signed
R. Sreekumar, General Manager – Sales
Luxon Motors, Kochi

Names, numbers and dates above are examples. Replace them with yours.

What it must include

  • Products / brand sold and the showroom or territory
  • Role: inbound, field, B2B, channel
  • Target and achievement (a number or a percentage), awards if any
  • Dates, and whether on company rolls or a dealer-principal's payroll
  • Signature of the sales head or HR with seal and contact

Common mistakes

  • No numbers — "handled sales" tells the next employer nothing.
  • Letter on the car brand's letterhead instead of the dealership's.
  • Leaving out whether the person was on-roll or through a manpower agency; background checks ask.

Stamp paper, notary and signing

No stamp paper. Letterhead and seal. Dealerships should sign as the dealer entity (not the manufacturer), since the brand does not employ showroom staff.

Common questions

Can incentives or salary be mentioned?

Only if the employee asks; for Indian job changes it is usually left out.

Insurance agents (LIC / private) — same format?

Agents are not employees. The insurer issues an agency tenure/performance certificate instead; a brokerage firm can use this letter for its on-roll staff.

Field sales with no fixed showroom?

Name the territory (e.g. Ernakulam district) and the channel (distributors, retail outlets).
