NOC letter for passport (from employer)

Government, PSU and many private employees are asked for an NOC from their employer when applying for a passport under the Tatkal scheme or when the employer's records show them as a government servant. It tells the Passport Office the employer has no objection to the passport being issued.

To whom it may concern,

This is to certify that Mr. Arun Krishnan (Employee ID CC-0231) is working with Concept Carton Technologies Private Limited as Senior Developer since 3 January 2022.

The company has no objection to Mr. Arun Krishnan applying for and obtaining an Indian passport. His services are not bound by any contractual obligation that restricts him from travelling abroad.

This certificate is issued at his request for submission to the Regional Passport Office, Kochi, and does not create any liability on the company.

What it must include

  • Employee's full name exactly as on Aadhaar / PAN
  • Employee ID and designation
  • Date of joining
  • The words "no objection" and the purpose: applying for a passport
  • Which Passport Office it is addressed to (optional but helpful)
  • Company letterhead, seal, name and designation of the signatory

Common mistakes

  • Name spelt differently from the Aadhaar or PAN — the Passport Office matches it.
  • Missing date or letterhead; undated NOCs are often rejected.
  • Signed by a colleague instead of HR or an authorised officer.

Stamp paper, notary and signing

No stamp paper. Plain letterhead, signed and stamped. Not notarised.

Common questions

Do private-company employees need this?

Usually not. Passport Seva asks for it mainly from government and PSU employees (Annexure B / identity certificate). Private employees can attach one voluntarily; it rarely hurts.

Is there a prescribed government format?

Government servants use Annexure B (Identity Certificate) or a Prior Intimation letter. For a plain employer NOC, this format is accepted.

How long is it valid?

There is no fixed validity, but Passport Offices prefer one dated within the last 3 months.
