NOC from bank for vehicle hypothecation removal

After you repay a vehicle loan, the bank's name stays on the RC as the financier ("hypothecated to"). To remove it you need the bank's NOC plus Form 35 at the RTO. Banks issue this NOC in their own format; this page shows what it contains so you can check yours, and a request letter to ask for it.

Sample

[Bank's NOC usually reads:] This is to certify that the loan account no. VL0012345678 of Mr. Pradeep Nair for the vehicle Maruti Suzuki Baleno, registration no. KL-07-CX-4321, chassis no. MA3EXXXXXX, engine no. K12MXXXXXX, has been closed on 12 September 2026 and no dues are outstanding.

The bank has no objection to the cancellation of the hypothecation endorsement in favour of the bank in the Certificate of Registration of the said vehicle.

[Your request letter:] To, The Branch Manager, HDFC Bank, Edappally. I have repaid the above loan in full. Kindly issue the No Objection Certificate and Form 35 (in duplicate) for removal of hypothecation, along with the loan closure statement.

Signed
Pradeep Nair, Borrower (request letter)

Names, numbers and dates above are examples. Replace them with yours.

What it must include

  • Loan account number
  • Vehicle registration, chassis and engine numbers exactly as on the RC
  • Loan closure date and "no dues"
  • The words "no objection to cancellation of hypothecation"
  • Bank seal and signature; most banks also give Form 35 signed in duplicate

Common mistakes

  • Waiting months — expired NOCs mean another visit to the bank.
  • Chassis number with a typo; the RTO rejects it.
  • Not collecting Form 35 along with the NOC.

Stamp paper, notary and signing

No stamp paper. Issued on bank letterhead. Valid for 90 days in most states — go to the RTO (or Parivahan online) within that time.

Common questions

Can I get the NOC online?

Most banks let you request it through net banking or customer care; HDFC, ICICI, SBI and Axis send it by courier.

What else does the RTO need?

Form 35 (two copies), the NOC, original RC, valid insurance, PUC, ID proof, and the fee. In many states this is now done on parivahan.gov.in.

The bank has closed its branch — who issues it?

Any branch of the same bank, or the central loan servicing unit.
