NOC from school for admission elsewhere

CBSE and most state boards require a student moving mid-session or changing boards to produce an NOC from the current school along with the Transfer Certificate (TC), so the new school can register the student. Schools also issue it for students taking up sports or cultural events under another institution.

To, The Principal, Bhavans Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara, Kochi.

Subject: No Objection Certificate — Master Aaron Thomas, Class VI-B

This is to certify that Master Aaron Thomas, son of Mr. Sunil Thomas, Admission No. 2019/0456, is a bona fide student of this school, studying in Class VI (Section B) during the academic year 2026-27.

The school has no objection to his seeking admission to Class VI at your school on account of his family relocating to Elamakkara. All fees and dues up to 31 October 2026 have been cleared and the Transfer Certificate will be issued on request.

His conduct in the school has been good.

Signed
Sr. Annie Joseph, Principal
St. Mary's Public School, Kakkanad (CBSE Affiliation No. 930123)

What it must include

  • Student's name, parent's name, admission number, class and section
  • Academic year and the board / affiliation number
  • The school being joined and the reason for leaving
  • Dues cleared up to a date; TC to follow
  • Principal's signature and school seal

Common mistakes

  • Missing the affiliation number, which the new school needs for the board's portal.
  • Class or academic year wrong, causing registration problems with CBSE/State board.
  • Asking for the NOC after the mid-session deadline; CBSE has cut-off dates for class IX–XII transfers.

Stamp paper, notary and signing

No stamp paper. School letterhead with seal; CBSE wants the affiliation number on it. It is separate from the Transfer Certificate — most schools issue the NOC first and the TC after the fees are settled.

Common questions

Is an NOC the same as a TC?

No. The TC ends the student's enrolment; the NOC says the school does not object to the move. Boards ask for both for mid-year and class IX–XII transfers.

Can a school refuse the NOC?

It can delay for unpaid fees. Refusing a TC/NOC otherwise invites complaints to the board or education department.

Moving abroad — same letter?

Yes; most international schools accept it along with the TC and report cards.
