Common questions
Can this replace a marriage certificate? No. It supports the application for one. Once registered, use the certificate everywhere.
Married more than a year ago — any penalty?Kerala allows late registration with a small fee and, for long delays, a district registrar's permission. The affidavit is still the main document.
Different religions — which act?Special Marriage Act registration; the affidavit wording is the same, the notice period and process differ.
