How it works

The image is drawn onto an invisible canvas in your browser. Clicking a pixel reads its colour directly. The palette is found by grouping every pixel into colour buckets, picking the most distinct groups, then refining each one so it sits at the centre of the colours it represents. Transparent areas are sampled on white; fully transparent pixels are ignored.

Using the palette

Common questions

Is my image uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser. Close the tab and it is gone.

Why does the palette change with the colour count?

Asking for more colours lets the tool split large groups into finer ones, so a sky might become two blues instead of one.

Which formats work?

JPG, PNG and WebP up to 20 MB or 40 megapixels. HEIC photos from iPhones need converting to JPG first.

Can I get the colour under the cursor without clicking?

Click once, then use the arrow keys to move one pixel at a time; hold Shift for ten.
