Salary slip for domestic help

A written monthly slip avoids arguments about advances, leave deductions and the annual bonus, and gives the worker a record for a bank account, loan or rented room. Kerala's domestic worker welfare scheme and some housing societies also ask households for payment records.

What it must include

Agreed monthly wage and working days / paid leave allowed
Leave taken and whether paid
Advance given and recovery per month
Bonus or festival payment, if any
Net pay in words, mode and date; both signatures

Common mistakes

Deducting leave that was agreed as paid.
Recovering the whole advance in one month.
No record of the festival bonus, which leads to the same argument every year.

No stamp or registration. Keep a copy each. Paying by UPI gives both sides a record without any paperwork.

Common questions

Is there a minimum wage for domestic workers?

Kerala and several states notify minimum wages for domestic work (Kerala's is per hour / per day by category). Check the latest labour department notification; the slip should not be below it.

Do I have to pay PF or ESI?

Not for a household employing one or two workers. Kerala's Domestic Workers Welfare Fund is a voluntary scheme the worker can join.

Can the worker use this to open a bank account?

Yes; banks accept a signed slip plus the employer's address proof as income/address support for a basic account.
